We look at 4 old and new testament parallels in this brief message from Gerald McGill.
In context, the Israel of God in chapter 6 is the church of Christ based on Galatians 3:29 and 6:15-16
Typology 1: Israel’s bondage in Egypt vs. man’s bondage
As Israel chose to stay in Egypt (Exodus 1:8), we choose to stay in sin (Romans 6:16)
Typology 2: Moses leading Israel out of Egypt compared to Jesus leading man out of sin
God sent Moses, who was born in the midst of child slaughter, to lead Israel out of slavery (Exodus 3:8-10)
God sent Jesus to save the world (John 3:16-17, Romans 5:8)
Typology 3: church in the wilderness vs. the church today
The Israelites, being obediently faithful to God as the marched to the Red Sea and through, were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea (1 Corinthians 10:1-5)
We must believe that Jesus was sent to die in our place and be baptized in his name for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38, 3:19-20, 8:49)
